There are over 27,000 recruitment business in the UK (over 27,700 based on data from 2022) and the core process is the same for the large majority. I ran 400+ contingent workforce programs in tech for over 8 years, from Fintech and Pharma to E-Comm, all onsite building direct sourcing processes with minimal agency use
The core focus in these roles was value, not cost. I provided multiple successful cost saving initiatives in each of these roles and implemented Off-Shore sourcing, an Automated AI sourcing strategy and engaged with partners for SOW and project pieces
But the value was always based on information and time, I was able to provide market intelligence, alternate routes to market and changed a 76% direct sourcing model to 100% direct for one quarter and finished the year on 97% direct. I was able to do this because I understood the business, the client was a true partner and allowed me to with them, understand them and they valued my input. This is where I added value and why I saw success
During my (long) career I have worked for and with multiple recruitment agencies, very few and far between have been able to deliver in the way my direct team could, because they wanted was a job and rate, then they went to market
No brand awareness, no understanding of needs and process adaptation to make it work for that client
It’s a proven fact that it’s easier to keep a current client happy than it is to win a new one, so it blew my mind that suppliers wouldn’t do one simple thing… Communicate!
After being made redundant, my goal, to create an actual consultancy* a partner you can work that will tell you if your rates are low, that your skill set is unrealistic or your interview process is crazy, AND then have a conversation about how we can work with it
I am currently working with some recruitment consultancies to improve their process and communication with clients to get better results for both parties, and we’re seeing results already. I also provide recruitment on tech roles for clients that want a service, not a process
